Field-service software comparison

Jobber vs Housecall Pro vs ServiceTitan: which fits your company size?

The right choice depends less on which product has the longest feature list and more on how many people you need to coordinate, how complicated your workflows are, and what problems you need the software to solve.

Direct answer

Which one is best by company size?

For most 1–2 tech shops, start with Jobber or Housecall Pro. At 3–5 techs, those two are still strong choices, while ServiceTitan becomes worth comparing when there is full-time office staff, heavier dispatch complexity, reporting needs, or aggressive growth. At 6–10 techs, all three deserve consideration. At 10+ techs, ServiceTitan becomes increasingly compelling when the business needs deeper operational control, but Jobber and Housecall Pro can still fit depending on workflow and budget.

Best choice for 1–2 technicians

Our default shortlist: Jobber or Housecall Pro.

A one- or two-tech company usually needs scheduling, quotes, invoices, payments, customer history, and a clean mobile workflow more than it needs a large operations platform. Both Jobber and Housecall Pro publicly offer entry-level plans aimed at small service businesses.

Jobber's current Core plan is designed around one user and includes essentials such as online booking, quotes, invoices, payments, reporting and integrations. Housecall Pro's current Basic plan likewise starts with one user and includes tools such as online booking and scheduling/dispatch.

ServiceTitan can technically be evaluated by smaller companies, but for most 1–2 tech shops we would first ask whether the extra platform depth would actually be used enough to justify the added cost and implementation effort.

Best choice for 3–5 technicians

This is the real comparison zone.

At three to five technicians, the right answer can change quickly based on office staffing and workflow complexity.

Lean office, simple workflows Jobber or Housecall Pro will often be the more natural starting point.
Dedicated dispatcher or CSR ServiceTitan becomes more relevant because more office and field workflows need to stay coordinated.
Growing fast Compare what you need now with what you expect to need at 6–10 technicians, rather than buying only for today's headcount.
Reporting or process pain If management lacks visibility into calls, dispatch, sales, pricing or technician performance, a deeper platform may be easier to justify.

ServiceTitan's current referral guidance specifically points to businesses with at least three technicians and one full-time office employee as prospects worth referring. We treat that as a useful vendor signal, not proof that every three-tech shop should buy it.

Best choice for 6–10 technicians

All three are legitimate candidates, so complexity matters more than headcount.

Jobber now offers larger team configurations and a Plus tier explicitly positioned for teams scaling more complex operations. Housecall Pro also supports team-based service operations with scheduling and dispatch at the center of the product. ServiceTitan becomes a stronger candidate when management needs deeper call booking, pricebook control, reporting, payroll/commission workflows, memberships, and connected office-to-field processes.

At this size, we would not pick from a feature checklist alone. We would compare:

Best choice for 10+ technicians

ServiceTitan deserves a serious evaluation, but it is not an automatic winner.

At ten or more field technicians, operating consistency usually becomes a larger problem than basic scheduling. More people means more dispatch combinations, more customer communication, more sales and follow-up, more technician performance data, and more opportunities for disconnected systems to create errors.

That is where ServiceTitan's broader operating model can become easier to justify. But Jobber's current Plus offering is explicitly designed for larger, more complex teams, and Housecall Pro can remain viable if its workflows and economics fit the business better.

The correct question becomes: which platform solves the expensive operational problems we actually have?

Jobber vs Housecall Pro: how should a smaller contractor choose?

For a smaller company, we would put both on the demo/trial shortlist rather than pretending there is one universal winner.

Ask this question What to compare
How many people need access? Compare the exact plan and user limits for your current team and near-term hires.
How do customers book? Test online booking, request forms, customer communication and the handoff into scheduling.
How complicated is dispatch? Run through a real day of scheduling changes, technician assignment and customer updates.
How do we quote and collect? Build a real estimate, convert it to work, invoice it and test the payment workflow.
What do we need to automate? Compare reminders, follow-ups, recurring work and integrations instead of just counting features.

Jobber vs ServiceTitan: when does the jump make sense?

The move from Jobber to ServiceTitan is not simply a matter of adding another truck. The stronger signal is that the business has outgrown simple coordination and now needs a deeper operating system.

Consider a ServiceTitan evaluation when several of these are true:

Housecall Pro vs ServiceTitan: when should you compare both?

Housecall Pro can be a strong fit when the priority is running the core day-to-day service workflow without jumping straight into a larger platform. ServiceTitan becomes increasingly relevant as the business needs deeper operational control across office staff, field technicians, reporting and management processes.

For a 3–5 tech company with light office overhead, we would usually start by proving what Housecall Pro can handle. For a similarly sized company with a full-time dispatcher/CSR, heavier call volume, complex reporting requirements or aggressive expansion plans, we would put ServiceTitan into the comparison earlier.

Pricing: compare structure, not just the advertised number

Jobber and Housecall Pro currently publish plan pricing on their websites. ServiceTitan describes its pricing as per technician and asks buyers to request pricing.

That makes a simple sticker-price comparison misleading. Get the actual total for your business and include:

Frequently asked questions

Is Jobber better than Housecall Pro?

Not universally. Both target home-service businesses and cover core workflows. The better choice depends on team size, exact plan limits, dispatch workflow, automation needs, integrations and which interface your staff can use consistently.

Is ServiceTitan better than Jobber?

ServiceTitan generally offers a deeper operating platform, while Jobber can be a simpler and more economical fit for smaller or less complex teams. “Better” depends on whether the additional depth solves problems that are expensive enough to justify it.

Is ServiceTitan better than Housecall Pro?

For complex, growing operations, ServiceTitan may offer more depth. For smaller teams focused on straightforward scheduling, dispatch, estimating, invoicing and customer communication, Housecall Pro may be the more practical fit.

Which software is best for a 2-tech company?

We would normally start with Jobber and Housecall Pro. A 1–2 tech shop usually benefits more from simplicity and strong core workflows than from buying the largest platform available.

Which software is best for a 5-tech company?

All three can enter the discussion. Jobber or Housecall Pro often fit a lean operation, while ServiceTitan becomes more compelling if there is full-time office staff, dispatch complexity, reporting pain or rapid growth.

Which software is best for a 10-tech company?

At ten technicians, we would seriously evaluate ServiceTitan while still comparing the actual Jobber and Housecall Pro configurations that can support the team. Operational complexity and total cost should decide the winner.

Our recommendation

Do not choose software based on company size alone. Use size to build the shortlist, then make the decision based on operational complexity and actual economics.

For most very small shops, start with Jobber or Housecall Pro. Add ServiceTitan to the serious comparison when the office/field operation becomes difficult to coordinate or growth is forcing more process and reporting discipline.
