How we evaluate contractor software

Our goal is to answer a practical question: what level of software fits the contractor in front of us — not which vendor pays the largest commission.

What Contractor Software Buyer is

Contractor Software Buyer is an independent comparison and decision-support site for home-service businesses such as plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and other field-service companies.

We focus on fit by company stage: field-team size, office staffing, operational complexity, current tools, growth plans, and the specific workflow problems a business is trying to solve.

How the fit check works

The fit check uses a simple editorial scoring model. It is not supplied by ServiceTitan, Jobber, Housecall Pro, or any other vendor.

The score is a starting point for evaluation, not a guarantee that a vendor will accept a business, quote a particular price, or produce a particular result.

Vendor facts vs. our judgment

We try to label the difference explicitly:

Vendor factPricing model, published features, eligibility language, or program terms checked against the vendor's own site or documentation.
Editorial judgmentOur assessment of when a product is likely to be too simple, too complex, or worth evaluating for a particular type of contractor.

When a vendor does not publish a price, we do not invent one. When a decision depends on a quote or demo, we say so.

Affiliate policy

Some links on this site are affiliate or referral links. If a visitor follows one and completes a qualifying action, Contractor Software Buyer may receive compensation.

Affiliate compensation does not change the fit-check scoring logic. A smaller contractor can be steered away from ServiceTitan even though ServiceTitan may pay a referral reward, and a larger contractor can be told to compare products rather than purchase immediately.

Affiliate relationships are disclosed on pages containing monetized recommendations.

Limitations

Software fit depends on factors that a short web tool cannot fully capture, including local business model, trade mix, service vs. construction work, accounting processes, implementation capacity, contract terms, and the actual quote a vendor provides.

Use our recommendations to narrow the comparison and ask better questions — not as a substitute for reviewing a vendor's current contract, pricing, and implementation requirements.
